Good evening everyone,
I have sent the Friday Folders home tonight. I'd like to encourage everyone to take a look at the work that is in your child's folder, for it will give you an idea of that which we have been working on in class, as well as their understanding of the concepts. Students are asked to have their parents sign the sheet stapled on the inside of the folder to show that they have seen the work. The folders are due back on Monday, along with the work contained in them so that students can put the work in the appropriate folders.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is a PA Day.
Have a great weekend!

Good evening,
Thank you to all who have responded to the last post by going online and registering for the Rick Hansen eNewsletter. It has been brought to my attention that some people may have had difficulty getting signed up through the link that I posted last night. If this is the case please feel free to go to the school website and you can log on there. The web address is http://rickhansen.ps.yrdsb.ca
Here is tonight's homework. Please notice that there are items which are due next week. Some students have displayed difficulty budgeting their time in order to get these assignments completed. Discussing the importance of time management in this way would be greatly appreciated.

Good evening everyone,
I have let the students know of the following change, but wanted to ensure that I have informed parents as well. The rough draft for the "Trustworthy Article" is no longer due tomorrow. I am pushing it back until Monday so that they have some extra time (including the extended weekend) to work on it. Parents can support students by ensuring that they have completed the rough draft as per the outline/organizer they created, as well as to ensure that they have sufficient research. With this assignment students have been assigned to include names of important people and places which relate to their topic so that their article is trustworthy. More information on this assignment can be found in the rubric that students were given when we started the assignment.
Here is tonight's homework.

Grade 6

Goodevening,
As of late we have been working on a multiplication unit with some aspects of the measurement curriculum tied into it. On Tuesday we will be having a unit test on all of the material covered. There has not been much homework in math the last couple of days because the measurement activities we have been doing have been hands on activities conducted in class. Tomorrow and Friday however will serve as our review days. Students are expected to make sure that they understand all the material covered in these review days. If they have any questions they are always encouraged to come see me for extra help if asking questions in class has not been sufficient for them. It is also helpful for them to go over the concepts in their homework at home with a parent to ensure that they come to class as prepared as is possible.
Thank you everyone :) Please find tonight's homework listed below.

Good evening everyone,
I wanted to make parents of grade 6 students aware that yesterday we had a terrific presentation by the organization "Youthspeak". They are an organization which promotes anti-bullying initiatives. The grade 6 students heard the life stories of two individuals who had struggles with bullying in their lives. They had really good messages for the students. I would like to encourage parents to discuss with their children what they heard and any things which stood out to them or that they found extra meaningful. They really were good presentations.
As always, here is the homework. :)
Grade 5
Science - complete buoyancy and solubility page (due tomorrow)
Math - page 165 # 3-8, page 180 #4 and 5
Literacy - Read 30 minutes and Reader's Notebook for 10 minutes at least, make sure all research is here everyday for the article being written. Also be finding more research at home if they find they need it in order to write a detailed article.
-Synonyms page due tomorrow
Grade 6
