Good evening everyone,

We have completed our growth & development instruction for this year.  As we discussed in class, students are encouraged to discuss these topics with their parents.  The topics we discussed were....
1.  Consent as it relates to the law and sexual activity.
2.  Male and female reproductive systems (parts, functions, etc.)
3.  Defined sexual activity as anything stemming from hugging up to sexual intercourse, and discussed why there is such a range.
4.  The importance of having conversations with parents and family to support decision making around what is right for you pertaining to sexual activity.
5.  Sexually transmitted infections (STI's).  Descriptions and method of transmission.
6.  Adults who they can speak to if they have questions (i.e., parents, doctors, family members, teachers, etc..)
7.  The topic of abstinence and how it is the only proven way to completely protect yourself from STI's and any other harm that can come from sexual activity (i.e., emotional harm)
8.  In general, students have a lot of questions.  I have answered questions in the best way I know how, but have encouraged students to continue these discussions with family and trusted adults.

Grad Volunteers - Thank you to those who have said they would like to volunteer tonight @ 5:30 for the grade 8 graduation.  Please wear a white top and black bottoms if you have them.  If not, it is no problem, you can simply wear something "dressy".  Thank you! :)

Textbooks - Have been collected and due.  If you still owe a book please return it ASAP.  If you cannot find it, please let me know and I will provide you with the replacement cost.

Have a great evening,

Mr. Carr

Good evening everyone,

Very Important!

Today volunteer forms went home for Hansenpalooza.  We are in danger of having to cut short the duration that some of the fun events will be available.  This is due to the fact that we don't have enough volunteers.  If you, or your parents, are able to volunteer for a shift, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!  This is a very important fundraiser for our school.

The following sessions are where we need volunteers...
1. Shift #2 (5:30 - 7:00pm)
2. Shift #3 (7:00 - 8:30pm) *THIS SHIFT IS THE GREATEST NEED

We have 15 positive students (+15) and 11 negative students (-11) in the room. How positive or negative is our room? (Answer.... (+15) + (-11) = (+4) ... Therefore our room is (+4) )

We then remove 4 of the negative students from the room. Which equation below accurately demonstrates how positive or negative our room is now. Or are both equations correct?

Literacy - Literature Circle Session #4 will be due TOMORROW......  JUST THE JOB FOR THIS WEEK.  You don't have to do the other parts of the homework chart.

PLEASE NOTE.... It is important that you remember that a big part of the job that you complete for your sessions is to promote discussion within your group.  You do record your own thoughts and answers, but your job is not to read your work to your group members.  Your job is to promote discussion and get others to share their answers.  You can then gradually share your own answers through the discussion.
