Wednesday February 5, 2020

Good evening everyone!

A reminder that there is no school Thursday or Friday this week.  I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Please find your homework below.

Dance-a-thon - Is on Friday February 14th.  Pledge forms have gone home.  Thank you so much to all who raise money.  These funds go directly back to our school to provide important resources like laptops to support all students.  (Due tomorrow)

Work Home to be signed by parents:  (Due)
1.  Learning Skills page from Mr. Carr (complete the reflection portion)
2.  Daily Reflection page (for January).
3.  Greatest Showman Task

Math - Chapter Task is due Monday.  This is the task we did on Wednesday in class. (Due Monday)

Literacy - Your final drafts are due Monday.  Please refer to the rubric handed out in class (which can also be found on Google Classroom) for how you will be assessed.  You should also use the feedback that you were given on your "Attitude Texts" earlier in the year (found in  your portfolios).  (Due Monday)
Please remember that you will be handing in the following with your "Stress & Anxiety Essays" ...
1. Your most recent Health task.  The one where you reflected on how you deal with stress and your next steps for dealing with stress.
2.  All of  your research notes from the last couple of months on the brain and Stress/Anxiety.
3.  Your rough draft of your essay,
4.  Your essay organizer.
*  The purpose of handing all of these in is for you to demonstrate all the learning and effort that has gone in to the preparation and completion of your essay.

Art - The following  are the instructions for our current Art assignment.  (Due Monday)

Task

History - Your final History task is on Google Classroom.  Please make sure you follow the outline from the assignment sheet.  The assignment sheet is ordered with steps to help you complete the task successfully.   I STRONGLY recommend you plan with your group how you plan to get this task done on time.  You have 2 weeks, but you will only have another couple of class periods to work on it. (Due February 18th)

Learning Skills - Each day, please complete your Daily Reflection page.  You have received a new one for the month of February.  You are reflecting on the following prompt... "Today, I did what I ought to do when I ought to do it, so that one day I can do what I want to do when I want to do it."  (Every day)

Passion Projects - I would like to encourage everyone to go to the Aurora Public Library and find books on their Passion Project topic.  Please try to have them available for you to read at school after the Winter Break. (Due)

Math - Please complete 2 more rounds of your fitness tracking exercises.  It doesn't matter which days you do, but you should have 2 more rounds recorded by Friday.  We need to have these for activities in class.  In general, you need to be doing 2 rounds of fitness tests at home every week.  Thank you :) (Due Friday)

Health - We have been learning about the brain.

Below are some links to texts which promote mindsets that we are seeking to develop in our  class this year in order to enhance our learning experiences.  Each text is a teacher writing to their student in an effort to provide encouragement.  I hope you enjoy them.  Please let me know what you think :)

I encourage you to share and discuss these with your parents.  In order to view them, I believe you will need to be logged into your Google Apps account.

1.  Adding to your bank account
2.  To the student who just got an answer wrong in class
3.  To accomplish, you must first become
4.  School improves your passions
5.  The way school improves your passions
6.  Are you committed to your success?  Prove it, and you'll be glad you did!
7.  Why growth is fun!

Have a great evening,

Mr. Carr
