Growth Letters
My purpose for assigning you a letter is so that you can grow as a student in our classroom. These letters will hold you accountable for following the expectations in our classroom and school. It is my goal to support you through this process. While you are receiving a consequence, my hope is that both you and your parents do not look at this as “punishment” but instead look at it as “support”. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is important that we learn from those mistakes so that we can grow. Please follow the guidelines below….
- Please explain the mistake that you made. (Paragraph 1)
- Please explain what you have learned from this mistake (Paragraph 2)
- Please explain your growth plan. What is your plan for ensuring that you don’t make this mistake again? (Paragraph 3)
- Your letter must be at least 150 words.
- Your letter is due the next morning. If it is not handed on time, the length of your letter will increase by 50 words for each day that it is late. (For example, if it is one day late, the letter must be 200 words).
- Each letter must include a student signature and a parent signature.
- If you have any questions about why you received a letter, or you feel like you have been treated unfairly in any way, please make sure that you have that conversation with Mr. Carr before leaving school. It is always fine to ask questions, and our conversation may help me realize that a letter is not needed. However, if you leave school and do not talk to me, then the letter is due the next day. You must speak to me on the same
