Hello all,
Please find below a letter from Mr. Gardner, regarding our school's Peanut and Nut Sensitive Policy. This letter also came home, but we thought it would be appropriate to place on our blog as well.
Thank you kindly.

Dear Parents,
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind
families, that at Rick Hansen PS, we have a Peanut and Nut Sensitive
Policy. At our school, there are
children who have life-threatening allergies to specific foods. In order to
ensure the health and well-being of these students, we have a Peanut and Nut
Sensitive Policy, which reminds families that nuts and nut products should not
be brought to the school. We need the
understanding and commitment of everyone in our community to ensure the safety
of all of our students. Please take the time to read ingredient labels
carefully when packing snacks and lunches.
This will help to ensure that our students remain free from exposure to
nut products and help avoid the possibility of a medical emergency.
There are many times throughout the school year
when celebrations take place – Halloween, Valentine’s Day to name but two. If you do want to send an item in with your
child to celebrate this day, we ask that in lieu of candy treats, that you
please send in a non-food item. This may
include stickers, pencils, cards, erasers and the like.
As a designated Healthy Living School, we continue
to promote the consumption of healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. It has been wonderful to see so many families
bringing in fruit trays for class snacks or other celebrations.
Sincerely,
Mr. S. Gardner
Principal
