Accessing School Computer Files at Home

Yesterday, a couple girls in our class were so kind as to make us aware of the fact that students can access computer files from the school computers at home.  The following are the steps that students should take if they want to access work that they have saved on school computers.  However, please note, that any work that is completed at home will not be saved on the school computers.  Any work completed at home should be either saved in an email account, or brought back to school on a USB drive to ensure that work completed at home can be accessed at school.

Here are the steps:

2.  Type in school user name and password.

3.  On the left side of the screen will be a file with the student's user name/number.  Click on this file.

4.  Once you have clicked in this file the students work files that have been saved on the school computer should become visible on the right side of the screen.

5.  Click on the file(s) you would like to access.  This will allow you to open the files.  It may ask you to save the file on your computer, or give you the option of simply opening the file under a certain program.  If this happens you can click the appropriate boxes to open the program under the proper program (ex. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Publisher, etc.)

6.  Please remember to save all work on your home computer, AS WELL AS a USB or email in order to make sure your work is not lost.  THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT  :)

You can always email me at jonathan.carr@yrdsb.edu.on.ca if you have any questions.
