Monday May 6, 2013

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I am sure many of you are as excited as I am to see the weather as nice as it is. :)

Today in math class we had Mr. Gardner as our special guest, and we had a great time discussing the answer to a "challenge problem" we worked on last week.  Mr. Gardner, as well as myself, were very impressed with the excitement displayed by students as they worked together to try and solve this problem.  What made this problem so exciting was that it was a realistic problem that we could see in our everyday world.  I would love to encourage parents to have similar discussions with their students, whether it be about math, a book they have read, something they have seen on television, etc..  Anytime students are asked to discuss real-life issues, and come up with possible solutions, it is a terrific way to work on their critical thinking skills.
