Dear Parents and Guardians,
In Social studies, we are talking about the challenges that Black Canadians had in the 19th century (based on curriculum strand –Communities in Canada, 1780-1850).
Through our inquiry, we have begun to ask questions and research answers. For this particular question, we will be showcasing our findings through a Bristol board presentation. Although research thus far has been done on children friendly websites, I am uncomfortable with students looking up images of slavery (as some may be inappropriate for a Grade 3). Therefore, I have suggested that they draw their pictures instead. However, some students have asked if they can ask their parents to look for pictures that might be appropriate and print them/ email it to me to print. I don’t mind this, but it is at your discretion.
