Friday October 18, 2019

Good evening everyone!

PA Day - Reminder that Monday is a PA Day.

Social Studies - Please complete the chapter 3 questions.  Make sure you add lots of details from the text, combined with your own ideas, to answer the questions.  (Due Thursday)

Assessments signed - Please have the tests and assignments that were returned signed by your parents and returned.  These will go in your portfolios which we will eventually create.  (Due)

Art - Goals and Dreams assignment due October 29th.  Please remember to bring materials from home if you need them.  (Due October 30th).

Literacy - Please complete the following below.  You are completing these assignments to learn even more about attitude, but these tasks will be different from what you have done in the past because you will have to do some interpreting.  In other words, the texts might not necessarily be about attitude, so you will have to interpret what you can learn about attitude from them. (due Wednesday)....

1. Read at least 2 different articles from the following website.  You can choose any articles you want.  For each article, take notes and synthesize what you can learn about attitude.  Go in depth and be as specific as you can.  This is just like we have done in class for all the other attitude article texts.  Unless you have a SEA computer, you should be handwriting all your notes and keeping them all in the same place.

2.  Read the following article at this link.  Take notes that you can learn about attitude from this article.  Please also answer the following question....Was there anything wrong with Walker Buehler's attitude?  Please explain using details from the text and your own ideas.

3.  Please find attitude teachings that come from resources which represent you, or your culture, or your faith, or your family, etc..  This can come from a number of different sources.  For instance....
- a religious text
- a conversation with a family member or elder
- a text about a famous person who you admire (they don't necessarily have to be from your culture).
- Basically use anything that can teach you about attitude, and comes from a person or source that represents you in some meaningful way.  Write notes about what you learn about attitude from these sources.  The more notes the better!

Literacy - Please go through all the completed pages and identify any areas that you find confusing or challenging.  Please make sure you come see me for extra help.  You will be assessed on these grammar rules/principles in the near future.  (Due).

Literacy - Since we have been learning about attitude, I would like to encourage each of you to begin looking for resources which teach about attitude.  What I am really hoping for is that we can find resources which reflect different cultures.  Therefore, if you have a book, video, article or anything else that reflects your culture and teaches about topics that have to do with attitude, I would be so very grateful if you would bring it to class.  When I say culture, this is very open ended.  It could be texts that reflect your faith, a different country, or even a different way of thinking.  You can bring the text to school, or make a photocopy, take some pictures or even send me an internet link.  Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Literacy - I would like to encourage everyone to make sure that they are constantly adding to their tracking pages for reading comprehension strategies.  You have had a lot of time to do this in class, so you should by now have a lot of examples of how you have used each of the reading comprehension strategies.  Remember to look at the posters in our room to help you.  Please remember that I will be collecting these to mark them, but I am trying to give you lots of time to add to your tracking.

Arts Package - These have been placed on School Cash Online.  Thank you to those who have already registered.  If you have any questions, please let me know :)

Below are some links to texts which promote mindsets that we are seeking to develop in our  class this year in order to enhance our learning experiences.  Each text is a teacher writing to their student in an effort to provide encouragement.  I hope you enjoy them.  Please let me know what you think :)

I encourage you to share and discuss these with your parents.  In order to view them, I believe you will need to be logged into your Google Apps account.

1.  Adding to your bank account
2.  To the student who just got an answer wrong in class
3.  To accomplish, you must first become
4.  School improves your passions
5.  The way school improves your passions
6.  Are you committed to your success?  Prove it, and you'll be glad you did!

Have a great evening,

Mr. Carr
