Friday September 16, 2016

Good evening ladies & gentlemen,

Please see the message below.  We are very excited as a school to be a part of Activate Aurora!  Sunday is the kick-off.  I am planning to be there, and we want to make sure that all Rick Hansen PS families feel welcome to attend.  It is an event for Aurora residents, and our school is a big part of this initiative!

Rick Hansen Public School is proud to announce that we will be Aurora’s First ‘Activate Aurora’ school!
We are pleased to be working with Sport Aurora and the Mayor’s Task Force on Physical Activity by becoming an Activate Aurora School in 2016. In collaboration with our staff and with the support of YRDSB Curriculum Consultant Julie Anderson (Health and Physical Education, Healthy Schools and Workplaces), RHPS will be involved over the next three years in a Program partially funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation that actively promotes physical literacy through healthy physical activity.  As you may know, our Healthy Schools Committee and School Council has been working with York Region Public Health and Activate Aurora to encourage safe, healthy walk-to-school habits, and Daily Physical Activity (DPA) as outlined in the Ministry curriculum.  A unique multi-sport after-school program is planned as well. Much more will be coming to you in the next few weeks, so please look for this information.
We would like to invite each of our RHPS families to the Activate Aurora Launch, on Sunday Sept.18th at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex to learn more. Doors open at 12:30 and the event will begin at 1:00.  A special ‘shout-out’ from Rick Hansen himself to the School will be presented, so we encourage attendance.
