Tuesday February 16, 2016

Good evening ladies & gentlemen,

The following is to give your parents an update on that which we have been studying as of late....

In literacy we are continuing our social justice unit through novel studies.  The students have been reading texts that relate to various issues pertaining to the injustices in our world.  The texts are very thought provoking and have allowed each student to meaningfully reflect on some of the injustices that are seen around our world.

Students are responsible for various jobs that they must complete for each section of the text.  It is important that they manage their time, and come prepared to participate in literature circle discussions.

In Math, we have been continuing our studies of 2D geometry.  In the next week we will complete our work with tessellations, and then move toward a final task for the unit.  Through this task, students will be required to demonstrate their learning in an authentic way.

We have had some very meaningful discussions in Health class over the last few weeks.  It is my hope that students have been having discussions with their parents about that which they have been learning.  This week they have been assigned to write a letter to their future selves.  In this letter they are to provide advice for themselves when they come across issues pertaining to internet safety.

In History, we are continuing our study of the First Nations people.  We will be examining historical events from the 1800's and analyzing how they have affected today's First Nations communities.

    2. Creating Similar Shapes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YzyROtYyEg (Remember, the process explained in this video for creating a similar shape is the same regardless of what shape it is).

    4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt28LXW0cZo (Rotating & Translating Shapes in Patterns)

Health - Please complete the "Effects of Junk Food on the Body" assignment found on Google Classroom (due Tuesday)

Health - Please make sure your "Letters to Yourself" is submitted on Google Classroom, or handed to me if you completed it on paper (Due)

Literacy - Tomorrow is discussion day for session 4....Make sure you are following the timelines for your Social Justice readings and assignments. We need to do a much better job of keeping on top of this. It is important that you complete everything on your assignment checklists. It is also imperative that you have your books clearly labelled when you hand them in so that we can find everything we need to mark (Figurative language, discussion notes, job notes, your job). Your marks will suffer if you do not follow these requirements.

Science - Please make sure that you keep up to date with Mrs. Foster's assignment sheet.

    Have a great evening!
